Metro Manila COVID growth rate dips, could peak by July – OCTA

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila’s COVID-19 growth rate went down on Wednesday, which could be an indication that cases “could be peaking” in the first or second week of July, an OCTA Research fellow, Dr. Guido David, said on Twitter on Wednesday.

David cautioned, however, that the trend could still change. So he urged the public to continue practicing health measures to further increase the chances of decreasing the trend.

The NCR growth rate shown has decreased. This is an indication that cases in NCR COULD be peaking soon, maybe 1st or 2nd week of July. While this trend is not final and can still change, we must continue to practice health measures so that cases will start to decrease soon.

On Wednesday, the Department of Health recorded 781 new infections, raising active infections to 7,202 and the total nationwide caseload to 3,703,100. There were 3,635,356 recoveries and 60,452 death.

According to David, OCTA is projecting around 1,000 to 1,100 new infections on June 30.
