Phivolcs records fewer volcanic quakes in Bulusan, but alert level still up

LEGAZPI CITY—The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a few volcanic earthquakes in Mount Bulusan Monday and Tuesday, but this did not mean it would lower the alert level any time soon.

In its bulletin Tuesday, Phivolcs detected 23 quakes on July 4 and 19 on July 5.

The record was lower compared to the 129 earthquakes in the July 3 bulletin.

Its plume emissions reached 100 meters high, drifting west-southwest.

The volcano was still swollen and remained under alert level 1, which meant that eruption was possible.

Phivolcs recorded eruptions on June 5 and 12 that blanketed several villages of Sorsogon and Albay with ash.
