THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that the major magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Abra province continued to record aftershocks which, as of Friday morning, have been more than 1,000.
Phivolcs said that as of 10 a.m., 1071 aftershocks have been recorded with magnitude ranging from 1.5 to 5.0. The highest, which took place at 4:02 a.m. on Thursday also in the town of Tayum, had a depth of 17 kilometers.
The earthquakes epicenter was about 3kms northwest of Tayum and had a depth of 17 kilometers, it added.
The major earthquake also shook the provinces in northwestern Luzon and adjacent areas, including Metro Manila, according to Phivolcs.
