House adopts resolution expressing condolences for Queen Elizabeth’s death

MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives adopted House Resolution No. 346, honoring the late British monarch Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8 after reigning for over 70 years.

During Monday’s session, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez approved House Resolution No. 346, which expresses sympathy and condolences to the newly proclaimed king of Britain, King Charles III and the bereaved Royal family.

House Resolution No. 346 was authored by Romualdez and other House leaders, including Majority Floor Leader and Zamboanga City 2nd District Rep. Manuel Jose Dalipe, Minority Leader and 4Ps Rep. Marcelino Libanan, senior Deputy Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, and Tingog Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre.

It was consolidated with three other resolutions, namely House Resolution Nos. 347, 349, and 350.

“The passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, a cherished sovereign, and a beneficent ruler, will be deeply felt by the Royal Family, the people throughout the United Kingdom, the realms, and the Commonwealth for whom she devoted the greatest part of her life to serve, and by countless people around world who witnessed and admired her reign as a great monarch who served her people well,” the consolidated resolution stated.

“During her tenure as head of state, great changes occurred such as the transition from the British empire to Commonwealth; post-war austerity measures; end of the Cold War; the United Kingdom’s entry into and eventual withdrawal from the European Union; and throughout these changes, Queen Elizabeth II embodied continuity and unity in the British Isles, guaranteed stability in moments of crisis, kept alive the value of tradition in a society of constant change and profound evolution, and provided inspiring leadership to her people,” it added.

Queen Elizabeth II was reported to be under medical supervision by Thursday night (Manila time), as her closest relatives rushed to Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, once doctors expressed serious concern over her health.

Several minutes later, Buckingham Palace and the national broadcast company British Broadcasting Corporation confirmed the death of Queen Elizabeth.

The monarch has been remembered as a key figure ensuring the United Kingdom’s stability.

According to the resolution, the Queen served as an inspiration to people around the globe who aimed to lead their respective countries.

“Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II was an instantly recognizable figure to billions of people across the world who served as an inspiration to many generations of public servants in all parts of the globe – a gentle, yet solid rock of stability who exhibited grace and decency in performing her duty in times of crisis; and a reassuring presence throughout decades of sweeping change,” the resolution said.

House leaders said that a copy of the resolution will be given to the British Embassy in Manila.
