Rains expected over parts of Luzon; Signal No. 1 up in some areas

2022-10-20

MANILA – The shear line will continue to cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over several areas in Luzon, the weather bureau said Thursday.

In its latest weather advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and the northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands may experience flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The rest of the country will have isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Obet was last tracked 805 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometer per hour near the center and wind gusts of up to 55 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was hoisted over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga).

These areas may experience strong breeze to near gale strength winds.

Strong to gale force winds associated with northeasterly surface windflow will cause rough to very rough seas over the northern, eastern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small seacraft not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.
