A janitor of SM City Baliwag displayed exemplary honesty after returning P104,800 worth of cash to a mallgoer who left his money inside the comfort room last Thursday, Jan. 25.
The janitor, identified as John David Sulit, personally appeared at the Customer Relations Service (CRS) office of the mall and reported that he found some cash wrapped in plastic.
According to Sulit, he recovered the money from the urinals ledge while while cleaning one of the male comfort rooms.
He said he had no second thought in returning the money to its owner. “Gusto kong pong gawin ng matuwid ang trabaho ko,” (All I wanted was to do my job right)," said Sulit.
He added that pocketing the money never entered his mind.
The money was quickly returned to its owner, Ramil Manalastas of Mapaniqui, Candaba, Pampanga, who expressed his gratitude to Sulit and the entire CRS team for the recovery of his cash.
Sulit was commended for his honesty and dedication to work.
This was not the first time that personnel of SM Bulacan returned valuables left behind by mall patrons.
In June 2021, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, security guard Rodel Victorino of SM Center Pulilan also returned a wallet containing P46,798 which he found while on duty.
