MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. thanked the Filipino community in Vietnam for helping him strengthen Philippine ties with the Southeast Asian country.
"[A]ko’y lubos na nagpapasalamat sa inyong lahat dahil napapadali ang aking trabaho dahil sa magandang reputasyon na itinaguyod niyo sa pamamagitan ng inyong sipag at tiyaga dito sa Vietnam," Marcos told Filipinos in Vietnam on Monday, according to a Palace release.
Marcos added that the Filipinos in Vietnam are proof of good relations between the two countries. There are around 7,000 Filipino workers in Vietnam.
In his departure speech on Monday, Marcos said maritime cooperation and defense are some of the agenda for his two-day state visit.
Marcos is also expected to meet with business leaders to promote trade and investment relations.
Philippine-Vietnam relations have spanned for nearly 50 years. With the visit, Marcos hopes to bring ties to even "greater heights."
"I believe that we will usher in a new era of friendship and cooperation between our two countries," he said.
